Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will begin providing two samples of the new series of power semiconductor modules for automobiles, the J1 series, starting from September 30th. This series of products is equipped with 6-unit IGBT and is mainly used for driving electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) motor inverters.

In addition, the product will be exhibited at the PCIM ※ 1 Europe 2013 exhibition (held in Nuremberg, Germany from May 14-16).

Characteristics of the new product

1.6-in-1 packaging design promotes miniaturization of vehicle inverters

Compared with the previous three 2-in-1 products, the installation area of the 6-in-1 product (117.0 × 113.0mm) has been reduced by about 80%, which is beneficial for the miniaturization of the inverter.

2. To contribute to the low power consumption and high reliability of vehicle inverters

The 6th generation IGBT with CSTBTTM ※ 4 structure is configured, and the saturation voltage between the collector and emitter is reduced by about 15% compared to our previous product ※ 5, which helps to reduce power consumption.

The direct water cooling structure with integrated cooling improves the heat dissipation performance by 40% compared to our previous products, contributing to the miniaturization and high reliability of car inverters.
