According to the Japanese media "Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun", Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has developed a high-speed and high-capacity data communication technology that utilizes metal cables from the power grid to achieve 2 megabits per second (Mbit/s).
On the basis of Internet IP modem, the company has developed a new type of modem that uses power network to realize high-speed data communication. Using this technology, users can achieve high-speed data communication through the municipal power grid. Currently, one line can accommodate 100 sub users, with a direct transmission distance of 10 kilometers and a relay transmission distance of up to 20 kilometers. When the amount of communication data increases, the device will automatically adjust the communication speed to ensure communication quality. The device is connected to a server on the power grid and can collect users' electricity usage information remotely through their smart meters.
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan predicts that in the construction process of smart grids, with the popularization of smart meters, the amount of data communication through the power grid will rapidly increase, and the practical application of new technologies will be conducive to breaking through the data communication bottleneck of smart grids. If new equipment is connected to the distribution control system of the power grid, it will also play a role in coordinating the operation of the power grid.
