On September 20th, 21st, and 23rd, 2011, Mitsubishi Electric (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. held the "2011 Mitsubishi Electric Power Module Technology Seminar" in Xi'an, Chengdu, and Shenzhen respectively. This seminar attracted more than 400 experts and engineers from major enterprises to participate in interaction and exchange, and also received strong support from colleagues in the power module application industry.
Seminar - Xi'an
At the seminar, Mr. Zhao Zhengming, a professor and doctoral supervisor from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, as well as the Chairman of the IEEE Beijing Branch, and Mr. Wei Wei, the Asia Pacific Technical Manager of CT Concept, an expert in IGBT driver field, were specially invited to introduce and answer questions from both theoretical and practical applications.
Seminar - Chengdu
At the meeting, Mr. Toyotomi Taniguchi, General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric's Semiconductor Division in China, delivered the opening speech; Tetsuya Ichimura, Senior Application Engineer from the Power Module Application Technology Department of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, introduced the development history of Mitsubishi power modules; A senior application engineer from Mitsubishi Electric introduced the latest products of power modules, including the 4th generation DIPIPMTM for variable frequency household appliances and small power industrial drives, the latest PV-IPM for photovoltaic power generation, the 5th generation L1 and V1 series IPM modules, as well as the latest MPD module for wind power converters and HVIGBT for railway traction, and provided detailed explanations on the selection and power consumption simulation of power modules; Mr. Wei Wei, the Asia Pacific Technical Manager of CT Concept, provided a detailed explanation of IGBT driver protection and introduced Concept's driver products. At the conference, engineers from Mitsubishi Electric and Concept had a thorough discussion with the guests on the practical issues encountered by power modules in various power electronics applications.
Professor Zhao Zhengming, doctoral supervisor of the Department of Power Electronics at Tsinghua University and chairman of the Beijing branch of the IEEE Power Electronics Society, also delivered a keynote speech entitled "Safe Working Areas and Applications of Power Electronic Converter Systems", which was well received by the guests. Professor Zhao elaborated on the importance of System Safe Operating Area (SSOA) in the design of power electronic converters from five aspects: definition and modeling of SSOA, parallel application of power semiconductor devices, DC bus stray inductance and its impact, pulse delay process and impact of drive circuits, and converter design based on SSOA. Professor Zhao pointed out that in recent years, China's high-power power electronics have made significant progress, but reliability remains the most important issue affecting the localization of high-power power electronic devices. Professor Zhao sent a message to power electronics engineers that when conducting reliability design, they should not only consider the SOA of power modules, but also pay attention to SSOA.

In addition, in line with the national "12th Five Year Plan" energy-saving policy, electric vehicles have become one of the development trends. Mitsubishi Electric also takes it as its responsibility to create a "low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and sustainable harmonious environment", and has launched vehicle modules in response to customer requirements. The J-series T-PM and J-series IPM used in electric vehicles introduced this time have the characteristics of compact structure, high reliability, long service life, and fully comply with the EU ELV standard.
The entire seminar finally came to a successful conclusion at its final stop, Shenzhen, in a lively atmosphere. Over the past three days, the organizers and attendees have had ample interaction and communication, jointly exploring the application technology of power modules, promoting industry exchanges in power electronics, and also driving the development of China's power electronics industry to a higher level.
